In response to the United Nations' "2030 Sustainable Development Goals" and global energy development policies, Taiwan is actively developing renewable energy. On the policy front, the government is actively promoting diversified green energy development, increasing the variety of renewable energy electricity sales methods through policy and market mechanism adjustments to facilitate businesses' procurement of green electricity to meet RE100 requirements. With the joint efforts of the government and the private sector, significant progress has been made in recent years.

According to statistics from the Energy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, as of January 2025, Taiwan's cumulative installed renewable energy capacity reached 21,169 MW, with monthly renewable energy power generation reaching 3.055 billion kWh. However, despite the continued growth in installed capacity, actual power generation has still fallen short of the expected target. In 2024, Taiwan added approximately 2.7 GW of renewable energy installed capacity, a decrease from 3.824 GW in 2023, indicating that challenges remain in promoting the development of renewable energy.
